The silver lining has a name, and her name is Miriam seliktar. .....my husband quickly became a quadraplalegic and then on a respirator for life support...one of the biggest challenges was to find caregivers for 24hour care.....When I first met Miriam, I was still in denial that I could do it myself. Her approach to offering help on the many challenges UI faced was sympathetic and gentle. Yet her caring nature did not obscure the fact that she was very capable, determined woman who understood and cared about the patients and families....as the length of my husband's illness grew and my stamina declined, I encountered not only staffing difficulties but also insurance reimbursement issues....
 
I learned that Miriam's standards of care were high; accepting not only excellence and competence, but compassion as well. As the weeks went by my stress became less and less as I realized that I did not have to do it all alone, Miriam was my safety net and I could take time to care of myself so I could continue on and be there for my family.

When our Grandmother wanted to stay in her home of more than 60 years, Miriam Seliktar helped us keep her there. At first Miriam was just like a special friend to our Grandmother, checking up on her at home, taking her out to lunch, bringing her dinners, helping her with small things around the house she could no longer do on her own. As our Grandmothers needs grew, Miriam was there...she was there when an emergency hospitalization stay became necessary, she looked into drugs that would help, and dealt with the doctors when we could not, she hired a live in nurse when our Grandmother could no longer be on her own. Miriam is professional, compassionate, persistent, and very knowledgeable on Geriatric care and the issues surrounding it. PCS helped me with the relocation of my parents who now need extra care. I relied on PCS’s extended research on existing Nursing Homes in the Delaware Valley. Thru this personalized service I understood that the existing care facilities are not going to work out for my parents, since each one of them has a different level of required care, emotionally and physically. It was important to me that we do not separate my parents to different living quarters, in a new found living arrangement. We have reached the conclusion that my parents will have a better quality of care and overall better quality of life, if they are to move to an apartment near my home. PCS facilitated the move to a safe and comfortable apartment for my parents. Our family was referred to Miriam at a time of great crisis. My husband, a 48 year-old father of two preschool-aged children, had been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in late 2005, and within one year had become ventilator-dependent. The demands of caring for him at home became overwhelming after about one year on the ventilator, despite the strong support of extended family and friends. Miriam entered the picture and literally “rescued” our family from one of its darkest times. She took ownership of all aspects of my husband’s care, and within weeks had interviewed, trained, and organized a matrix of committed caregivers who now provide 24/7 coverage. She took it upon herself to learn all aspects of my husband’s extremely complex medical care, and her commitment to us is evident in the fact that she herself cares for my husband when there is a gap in coverage. Her commitment to quality, compassion and professionalism is evident in every task she performs, and no task is too big or too small. My only regret is that we did not discover Miriam sooner.
